How to co-design a human-centric demand response programme that optimizes energy consumption without altering citizens’ well-being and comfort?

Athens, Greece

The Context

According to the national plan for energy and climate, a need for adoption of energy efficient measures has become of critical importance. In accordance with that need, the Greek pilot consists of a group of residential and commercial buildings located in Athens, where most of their residents and employees are already familiar or will be introduced to smart energy related technologies.

The Challenge

The demo case focuses on engaging local consumers in implicit demand response programmes to alter their energy consumption patterns and provide flexibility to the electricity retailer in 20 residential buildings.

The Solution

By enabling the realisation of human-centric demand response programmes, participants’ data has been collected and analysed in order to design a personalized consumer’s flexibility profile via an ICL platform. These profiles allow the design of optimal Virtual Power Plants and the delivery of valuable services to the electricity retailer.
